Green Genius Challenge: UE Dubai and BSH Middle East Empower High School Innovators to Reimagine Sustainable Home Appliances

Dubai, UAE — October 29, 2024: The University of Europe for Applied Sciences Dubai (UE Dubai), in partnership with BSH Middle East, has unveiled the Green Genius Challenge: Eco-Appliance Edition, a competition designed to ignite sustainable innovation among high school students aged 16-18. This initiative calls on young minds in Dubai to invent eco-friendly household appliances that emphasize energy and water conservation, pushing the boundaries of sustainable living solutions.

Participants are encouraged to rethink everyday appliances—from washing machines to kitchen gadgets—making them more resource-efficient while maintaining convenience and design. The challenge underscores the importance of industry-academia collaboration, as UE Dubai and BSH Middle East join forces to cultivate future innovators with an eco-conscious vision.

Her Excellency Sybille Pfaff, German Consul General in Dubai, endorsed the challenge, highlighting its role in strengthening ties between education and industry to inspire sustainable solutions among youth. His Highness Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, known as the “Green Sheikh” and a prominent sustainability advocate, is among the distinguished panel of judges.

Students will submit a two-minute video alongside supporting documents, presenting their eco-appliance concepts by January 3, 2025. Judged on creativity, impact, and practicality, the winners will receive scholarships to UE Dubai and Bosch appliances, supporting their journey in sustainable innovation. The award ceremony, coinciding with UAE’s National Environment Day on February 4, 2025, will honor these young visionaries and their contributions to a sustainable future.
